LACK OF STATE FUNDING AND ACCESS
Despite the incredible victories that philanthropy made possible in the past year, the uncertainty of state funding remains a huge challenge for both AMITA Health Alexian Brothers supportive housing ministries. As organizations throughout the area are forced to eliminate positions and shut their doors due to funding cuts, the Housing and Health Alliance and Center for Mental Health are challenged with having to absorb their clients. Clients who need psychotherapy and psychiatry services also have trouble accessing those critical services because of the dearth of providers who accept Medicaid.
“Right now we have 150 people waiting for psychiatry services at the Center for Mental Health,” says Germann.
